5 Gifts to Encourage Visitors to Subscribe to Your E-Newsletter
The people who visit your website just once and then surf away rarely become customers. It’s the prospects with whom you have regular contact who usually end up purchasing your goods or services.
Opt-in email newsletters are an effective way to subtly call attention to your business on a regular basis and to pass on information about sales, special offers, new products and other items of interest to prospects or customers. The only problem is getting prospects to take that extra step and opt in. Many simply forget, or they’re interested, but not quite interested enough. You can give them a little push in the right direction by offering a small gift to those who subscribe to your email newsletter.
Gift Idea #1: A Free E-Book
Free downloadable e-books that have something to do with your business are wildly popular as incentives. For instance, if you run a business that sells kitchen appliances like Euro kitchen range hoods, you could offer a book of recipes or a book full of kitchen decorating tips. If there is a drawback to this idea, it’s that it’s not very original.
Gift Idea #2: Discounts on Goods or Services
Perhaps you could sign everyone who signs up for your newsletter a 10% to 15% discount on their first purchase with your company. If that idea is cost prohibitive, perhaps you could arrange for people who sign up to get a free 30 minute phone consultation with a trained designer or another expert.
Gift Idea #3: Gift Cards
If you’re expecting a rather small group of opt-ins, you could offer $5.00 gift cards to online companies or to local businesses. A gift card to a service station is always popular, especially with gasoline costs as high as they are. This incentive works best for a small, elite list. If you want thousands of people to sign up, it can quickly get a little pricey.
Gift Idea #4: Downloadable Video
Videotape a local celebrity like a chef — the more personality he or she has, the better — showing consumers the ins and outs of decorating the kitchen or of making a complicated dish or a full holiday meal. Subscribers can download the video and enjoy it over and over at no cost. You can also sell the video for $5.00 to $10.00 to non-subscribers.
Gift Idea #5: Industry Report
Offer a free industry report, preferably one showing your business ranking at or near the top in several different categories.
Get your team together as soon as possible and take some time to think of an incentive you could offer potential clients. It doesn’t have to be huge, just enough of a bonus to make people who take the time to opt-in to your email marketing feel special. Remember—the more people who opt-in, the higher your sales conversion rate.
